The FAU Department of Theatre & Dance is proud to present “A Certain Raquel” from November 6–15, 2026!
A Certain Raquel (originally Una tal Raquel) tells the true and powerful story of Raquel Liberman, a Polish-Jewish immigrant who courageously exposed an international human trafficking network in 1930s Argentina.
After the death of her husband, Raquel struggles to support her children and is ultimately coerced into prostitution by the Zwi Migdal, a criminal organization operating in Buenos Aires. After years of exploitation, she escapes and, at great personal risk, reports her captors to the authorities in 1930. Her testimony becomes instrumental in dismantling the organization.
Glickman frames this historical narrative through a dual timeline, interweaving Raquel’s experiences with those of her granddaughter in 1998, who seeks to uncover and understand her grandmother’s legacy. The play examines themes of resilience, justice, and the erasure of women’s histories, offering both a personal and societal reflection on courage and accountability.
Written by Nora Glickman.
